Re-cut Antique Diamond

Re-cut Antique Diamond

Susan was lucky enough to have extra diamonds from a recent heirloom re-design project.  These lovely diamonds are "Old European" cut.  Old European cut diamonds have thicker facets and tall tables, which results in a puffed shape with a soft glow.

Since Susan's diamonds were more than a hundred years old, the largest gem had a crack from the girdle (edge) to the center of the stone.

To keep the integrity of the diamond style, we had to send this out to an old master diamond cutter in NYC who has a passion for old cut diamonds.  He's mostly busy faceting modern cut diamonds for the masses, but he takes on restorative projects from time to time.

Thank you for facilitating this restoration project! Perpetuum Jewels

We were blown away by the complete re-cut of this diamond because there was ONLY 0.01 carat lost.  The restored diamond shines brighter than ever and is safe to be worn everyday.

Finally, the bail (loop) for the chain was made larger so that she can slide this piece on various chains. To balance this out, the entire pendant was elongated.  This resulted in an elegant silhouette.

May these diamonds sparkle for many more centuries!
