Bee Pendant
"Dear Emily," said the handwritten envelope. The way her mother wrote capital “E” has a unique flair that is unmistakable. Emily and her brother shared stories of how wonderful their mother was. This is a heirloom re-design project that memorializes their mother. Both her children are caring, smart, sweet and great listeners...she was truly a great woman and a mother.
After talking for some time, Emily mentioned that “Emily bee” was a cute childhood nickname that her mother used. I loved the idea of using a bee motif because of this sweet story.
The body of the bee is a marquis-shaped diamond in the original setting from her mother's engagement ring. The bee shape was hand carved and cast in honey-toned 14k yellow gold, and the wings were embellished with a honeycomb pattern. The most poignant detail of this pendant is not visible to everyone. Just against her heart, on the inside wing portion of the pendant, “Emily” is hand engraved exactly like her mother's distinctive handwriting.
